Today, HOSPAC is launching its 2011 fundraising campaign! Join the HOSPAC Board and me as we work together to raise the political involvement of the hospital community. Each and every THA-member hospital and health system has a HOSPAC goal based on $2 per FTE, with a $500 minimum. Please click here to see your hospital’s goal for 2011. We will be announcing our campaign progress on a regular basis, so give now! It is crucial to see your hospital’s name on the list of HOSPAC leaders, and it all begins with your personal commitment. So, please make your 2011 contribution today.

Political action is absolutely critical to effective advocacy. HOSPAC works hand-in-hand with the Texas Hospital Association and health care advocates around the state to build political support for hospitals’ public policy priorities and to make sure our voice is heard. With major health care funding cuts being debated in Austin, we need a strong collective voice for our hospitals and the patients we serve. Your participation in HOSPAC helps do just that.

Thanks to the contributions of more than 750 HOSPAC members in 2010, we raised more than $308,000 for the first time ever. This is almost 21 percent more than in 2009! In addition, HOSPAC membership grew by one-third!

All members, especially those who gave at a Leadership Level, deserve special recognition; click here to see a list of all
2010 Leadership Level members. I also want to congratulate those hospitals and health systems that met or exceeded their HOSPAC goals for 2010 (see list below). Thank you for helping HOSPAC reach new heights!

There is a lot at stake for hospitals this year. The stronger HOSPAC is, the more powerful our voice will be – and the more successful we’ll be in collaborating with lawmakers to build solutions that work for Texas hospitals.

Help HOSPAC hit a home run and catch a great game, too! Join HOSPAC April 5 at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington when the Texas Rangers slug it out with the Seattle Mariners. This Leadership Reception will be at the ballpark suite of long-time HOSPAC Leadership Level member Sterling Barnett Little, Inc., an architecture firm specializing in health care and hospital facilities. The two-story suite features generous views of the field, and seating is available in the stands as well.

The reception opens at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner buffet and refreshments. The program begins at 6:15 with an “inside baseball” legislative update, followed by recognition of the HOSPAC/AHAPAC Most Valuable PAC Player award winners for 2010: David Tesmer and Texas Health Resources, and East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System. The first pitch is thrown at 7:05 and the amenities of the suite are open to guests for the duration of the game. RSVP today for this special event. Play ball!

Williams Honored with HOSPAC Star Award

Michael D. Williams, FACHE, center, was presented with the 2010 HOSPAC Star Award by THA Chief Executive Officer Dan Stultz, left, and HOSPAC Board Chairman David Tesmer, right, during the THA 2011 Annual Conference.
Michael D. (Mike) Williams, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of Community Hospital Corporation in Plano, received the 2010 HOSPAC Star Award during the Texas Hospital Association’s Annual Conference, Feb. 2 in Austin. The award recognizes outstanding hospital leaders who go above and beyond to support HOSPAC.

“Whether he’s leading a hospital in Texas or Tennessee or serving up soup during a mission trip in Guatemala or Haiti, Mike strives each and every day to make a difference,” said David Tesmer, chairman of HOSPAC. “He understands the importance of building relationships with elected officials to help shape the future of health care policy, and he motivates others to get involved.”

Williams is consistently among the PAC’s top contributors, and he has served on the HOSPAC Board of Directors since 2008. During his tenure as a member of the THA Board of Trustees – which he chaired in 2010 – he raised the profile of HOSPAC and increased participation to the highest level in the organization’s history.

Congratulations, Mike, and thanks for all you do for HOSPAC!

HOSPAC Board Sets 2011 Campaign Goal

The HOSPAC Board of Directors met on Feb. 1 in Austin to review the results of HOSPAC’s 2010 Annual Campaign and to make recommendations for the 2011 Annual Campaign, which begins today. The board approved a goal of $339,000 for 2011. Many HOSPAC members have begun making their contributions and pledges; so far, almost $35,000 has been raised from 220 members.
